Each employment category for admission has different requirements, conditions and authorized periods of stay. It is important that you adhere to the terms of your application or petition for admission and visa. Any violation can result in removal or denial of re-entry into the United States.

(1) Temporary Nonimmigrant Worker: foreign workers who are permitted to work in the U.S. for a temporary period of time for a specific purpose.

    7. L-1A Intracompany Transferee Executive or Manager
    8. L-1B Intracompany Transferee Specialized Knowledge
    9. O-1 Individuals with Extraordinary Ability or Achievement in Science, Arts, Education, Business, or Athletics and Motion Picture or TV Production.
    10. O-2 Persons Accompanying Solely to Assist an O-1
    11. P-1A Internationally Recognized Athletes
    12. P-1B Member of Internationally Recognized Entertainment Group
    13. P-2 Performer or Group Performing under Reciprocal Exchange Program
    14. P-3 Artists or Entertainer Part of a Culturally Unique Program
    15. Q Persons Participating in an International Cultural Exchange Program
    16. R-1 Temporary Religious Workers
    17. TN North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Temporary Professionals from Mexico and Canada 

(2) Permanent Immigrant Worker: foreign workers authorized to live and work permanently in the U.S.

    1. Employment-Based Immigration: First Preference EB-1: Extraordinary Ability, Outstanding Professionals and Researchers, Multinational Manager or Executive
    2. Employment-Based Immigration: Second Preference EB-2: Advanced Degree, Exceptional Ability, National Interest Waiver (NIW)
    3. Employment-Based Immigration: Third Preference EB-3: Skilled Workers, Professionals, Unskilled Workers
    4. Employment-Based Immigration: Fourth Preference EB-4: Religious Workers, Broadcasters, International Organization Employees, Physicians, Armed Forces Members
    5. Employment-Based Immigration: Fifth Preference EB-5: Immigrant Investors
